GROUP FITNESS

The Barre Method/ Pilates

Our newest class offered by demand! We have received many requests to offer a barre and pilates class so adjustments were made and the class will begin the first week of July, 2018!

This class will take you trhough a dynamic and invigorating workout. You’ll start with a warm up and pilates exercises which include free weights, plyometrics and other moves to target muscle and core activation. The ballet barre helps to focus on isometric strength training combined isolated movements.

There will be a cool down at the end of class with a series of flexibility, mobility and recovery exercises.

The barre method accepts all levels of fitness and ability!

Join Victor for an hour of an intense, heart pumping, music thumping, community building group ride where you can push yourself as hard as you want or just go along for the fun at your own pace.

Elyssa is a favorite in La Jolla yoga studios and Genna owns her own studio in downtown La Jolla. We feel blessed to have these powerful women as our official in-house teachers. They incorporates multiple modalities into their yoga classes which are meant for all levels from first timers to veteran yogis. Take an hour out of your day to give back to yourself and create some balance in your busy work schedule.

Outdoor Sports Performance

Coach Chris has programmed an outdoor group conditioning class focused on reducing body fat% and increasing athletic stamina. Coach Chris trains on the entire athletic spectrum from post-partum moms to professional athletes. Every participant in his class is given options to modify and start at their own pace.

Taylor Teigen has been teaching group circuit training for years. Participants are guaranteed to learn new ways to train and have an intense workout! Taylor uses a combination of free weights, bodyweight exercises and performance tools to create a diverse class every time! This class is for all levels.

Dr. Kayo Arima has a deep understanding of how our bodies extract nutrients from food and how these nutrients affect us on a molecular level. She believes in a practical approach to health and nutrition that includes working with clients’ unique lifestyles to meet their individual goals. She is popular in the triathlete community and has become beloved at GENESIS. Everyone enjoys trying her latest scientifically based nutrition supplements and she is well known for getting results.

Laryssa has an extensive dance background, with roots in classical ballet in Brazil, later joining in a professional dance company focused on Contemporary/Jazz dance. She has been a professional dance instructor for over 10 years in Jazz, Hip Hop and now dance/cardio fusion.

Laryssa is passionate about health and fitness and dedicates the majority of her free time to continuing education in the fitness industry and to the dance company she performs with in Los Angeles.

Chris is a Nutrition and Strength Coach with a passion for helping others along their journey to improve and get better every day. Education and empowerment are the tools that Chris believes will help you get to your desired outcomes. After graduating with a degree in finance Chris found that his passion for helping individuals is through fitness. Chris has an athletic background in outrigger paddling, baseball, basketball, tennis, swimming, and golf which has been his biggest success. Chis has been a competitive golfer since the age of 9 and has taken his skills to be a professional golf coach and competitive athlete. He enjoys coaching the skills necessary for rotational efficiency and power which in reality is the most athletic movement one can produce in sports. Nutrition, rotation specific training, and overall athleticism can be called his specialties but overall Chris naturally enjoys helping others improve at what they are striving to achieve from the physical aspects to mental aptitude. After moving to San Diego in 2012 and officially becoming a fitness professional Chris has all the intentions to continue with his passion for many years to come!

Bonnie Allen

Licensed Massage Therapist

Bonnie is passionate about client health and well being through massage therapy. She believes strongly in the mind body connection and the power of massage to help people heal themselves. From 16 to  85+, Bonnie has worked with clients of all ages and fitness levels and customizes each session with varying modalities based on her client’s needs. Her techniques blend traditional Swedish massage with trigger point therapy, Cranio-sacral therapy, reflexology and acupressure.
After graduating summa cum laude with a diploma in massage therapy, Bonnie received her national licensing through the rigorous MBLEx exam. She is also CAMTC certified and oncology and infusion center certified, with experience working directly with cancer patients at the Cancer Wellness house in Salt Lake City and in several infusion centers in the Orange County area. She is excited to be joining the Genesis family and looks forward to helping you achieve optimal health.

Victor Valentino

Victor has over 24 years of experience in the health and fitness industry. One of Victor’s passions is teaching Spin, which he has done for the past 18 years. His training focus is on core and functional strength, advanced structural and corrective alignment methods, flexibility and post-injury rehabilitation.
Chris Guerrero is a Nutrition and Strength Coach with a passion for helping others along their journey to improve and get better each and every day. Susan Sange

Susan’s focus on functional training began while working as a trainer at UCLA’s physical therapy offices. Working alongside the therapists, she saw how bringing the body into balance not only prevents and corrects injuries, but can radically improve energy and overall wellness. She is also passionate about food… having recently relocated from the Napa Valley, she can show you how eating to reach your goals can taste amazing! While working at a medical fitness center, she created a sports performance program, ran the fitness portion of a weight reduction clinic, and worked closely with a pain management doctor (predominantly with back pain patients).

For fun, Susan loves to teach Turbo Kick, boot camp, and aquatic exercise. She competed in (and won!) two figure competitions, and led teams to run two Tough Mudder events.

As the mother of three children, Susan understands the obstacles of a busy schedule!  Through meal planning and creative workout solutions, she can show you how small, consistent changes can lead to lasting results.

Taylor Teigen

Taylor has been in the fitness industry sense 2004, coaching people toward their health and fitness goals. In 2011 Taylor went back to school to get his bachelors degree at San Diego State University. While attending school Taylor thrived in exercise physiology and biomechanics; learning what occurs to the body during exercising. After school, Taylor trained for three years at a local gym focusing on proper movement patterns for clients to avoid injuries during their active life style. He has an expertise in marathon preparation.

In Taylor’s spare time he enjoys spending time with his wife and son, hiking and ridding their beach cruisers around beautiful San Diego.

Kayo Arima PhD, RD
Nutrition and Meal Consultant

Dr. Kayo Arima was born and raised in Japan, where she received bachelor degree in Nutritional Science and certification as a registered dietitian. In the US, she received PhD in Nutritional Science and Genetics from the University of Arizona, and worked at UC Irvine and UC San Diego as a bio-researcher.

She has a deep understanding of how our bodies extract nutrients from food and how these nutrients affect us on the molecular level. Combining her culinary training in Japanese food and advanced culinary sciences, she has developed a cooking style for creating healthy, delicious and beautiful meals without intensive labor. She teaches easy preparation of ready-to-eat food that enables you to quickly assemble meals (including for your dog!). She translates cutting edge science of food, nutrition and physiology into your everyday life.

She believes in a practical approach to health and nutrition that includes working with clients unique lifestyles to meet their individual goals.

I have been a trainer and fitness coach for over 25 years.

I see a successful fitness quest as a combination of knowledge, strategy, and action. A personal trainer is both a teacher and a guide. My first role is to give you the knowledge and strategy to get you going on your journey to a better, stronger, healthier way of life (mentally, physically, spiritually). I will guide you there, one session at a time, until you can ultimately achieve it on your own – feeling more confident and resilient overall. Once you have achieved your personal goals, we will set new more challenging ones, and together we will repeat the process. Soon you will be able to help others in the same way, and on it goes!

Matt Pippin has been in the health and fitness industry for over 13 years. He started as a strength and conditioning intern working primarily with football and then became Head Strength Coach of the Berlin Thunder of NFL Europe. Later he moved to Chicago to work at a country club developing training programs for hard core athletes to desk jockeys. For the last two years Matt has shifted to combining traditional training methods with Fascial Stretch Therapy to help clients combat the effects of sitting disease and increasing performance. Fascial stretch therapy is a unique assisted stretch technique focused on increasing mobility of the muscle, fascia, and joints. By manipulating, lengthening, and realigning your fascia, chronic pain and stiffness is decreased-helping to enhance performance, flexibility and recovery. Putting the body into proper alignment then strengthening this newly discovered pattern will allow the body to move PAIN FREE and function like it once did.

Chris believes success in fitness is found by creating a healthy learning environment for both coach and trainee. We are not here to just get in a good workout, but rather to learn from what our body tells us and to train accordingly. We must “GTG” Grease the Groove in our training by training with more frequency and at an intensity that will not keep us from returning to the gym, but rather eager to come back for more.

Having a passion for fitness and for helping others Chris became a personal trainer in 2008 and was later introduced to the “RKC” Russian Kettlebell Challenge in 2010 where he found his niche in the industry. Since then he has had the opportunity to work with all ranges of individuals including general fitness enthusiasts, post rehab, youth athletes, and competitive athletes in a wide range of sports including Football, Track and Field, Volleyball, Crossfit, Kettlebell Sport, Iron Mans, Marathons, and Obstacle Races. Chris demands 100% from his clients, whilst creating a fun environment to challenge and attain goals in the most efficient manner possible.

Bimala is the founder and Chief Operating Officer at Genesis. Under her leadership, Genesis has designed, programmed and implemented a hybrid and dynamic fitness program which allows for corporate accounts and user memberships as an amenity and also provides personal training, group fitness classes, professional nutritional counseling, massage, goals coaching and assessments.

Bimala is passionate about combining her expertise in wellness, fitness and entrepreneurship to lead market trends in hospitality. Prior to entering the fitness industry, Bimala was heavily involved in the wellness industry and owned and operated a successful hypnosis business for over 12 years, working with larger corporations to create business coaching products as well as meeting with clients and implementing goals attainment program for executives.

Bimala resides in Encinitas, CA with her husband and five beautiful children.
